On December 16, the CGN Shandong Laizhou Tushan 600MW “Salt-PV Hybrid” project achieved full-capacity grid connection. Located in Tushan Town, Laizhou City, Yantai, Shandong Province, this is the largest energy storage-supported project in Shandong Province. It sets a benchmark for multifunctional land use by adopting an innovative “salt-PV hybrid” industrial model.
Construction of the project began in June 2024, with an installed capacity of 600MW. Solar panels were installed above salt pond areas, covering approximately 9,765.2 mu (about 1,600 acres). This innovative model utilizes solar resources comprehensively while maintaining the original salt production’s quantity and quality. The “salt-PV hybrid” approach integrates photovoltaic power generation above the water, brine evaporation at the water surface, and aquaculture below, exemplifying a new compound industry model.
The project used high corrosion-resistant materials in all equipment, including foundations, supports, cables, and solar modules, ensuring photovoltaic systems remain unaffected by brine or saline air. The solar modules supplied by Grand Sunergy employ bifacial double-glass technology. By reflecting sunlight from the brine back to the rear side of the modules, this design increases the project’s power generation efficiency by approximately 2-3%.
Photovoltaic modules also generate a thermal effect, significantly raising the salt pond’s temperature, which facilitates brine concentration and optimizes salt production. Simultaneously, this thermal effect creates a natural growth environment for brine shrimp in the ponds, providing premium biological feed for aquaculture operations.
Despite tight schedules and complex project requirements, Grand Sunergy successfully completed the project with high quality and standards. Upon completion, the project is expected to provide 1.004 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, injecting robust momentum into the local green energy transition.
Grand Sunergy will continue advancing N-type high-efficiency photovoltaic technology, fostering industry-wide collaboration and delivering innovative “PV+Energy Storage” green energy solutions to contribute to sustainable energy development.
